You have a lot of questions about cosmetic surgery, and you should. It’s a major step toward building the image you want of yourself, and you want to be sure that whoever you’re working with won’t make a mistake you have to live with. You also want a safe and high-quality procedure at a price you can afford. With Dr. Kainer, you’ll be in the care of the best cosmetic surgeon in eastern North Carolina. So, let’s talk about what it’s like to get a facial procedure done and what you can expect throughout the process.

3 Things You Should Know About Facial Plastic Surgery

Pre-Procedure Planning You should know that there are several types of facelifts. We can lift your brows or your neck. We can give you chin implants if you want. Explore the options. Ask us whatever questions you have, and consider looking through websites to find out what you should be asking. When you’ve chosen the procedure you want, we can perform a screening process to prepare you for it. (It’s also important to know that there are differences between cosmetic and plastic procedures.) Facial procedures are more invasive, so we may have to do some lab tests or get you to take a medical evaluation. We may also need you to take certain medications or alter existing prescriptions. If you smoke, then you need to stop well before the procedure. Stop taking aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs, and herbal supplements. These medications can increase bleeding, and we want to avoid that during your procedure. Your Surgery During the procedure, we do everything possible to ensure that you don’t have any scars. A common question is whether the surgical incisions will be visible after it’s done. We can avoid this, because we hide most of the incisions in the hair, behind the ear, or under your chin. If we make any incisions on the face, then we’ll make them in front of the ear. Your Recovery After the procedure, we’ll do everything possible to maximize healing. We can prescribe medicine if you’re feeling discomfort, but the best thing you can do for yourself is rest. You can go home after a few hours or spend the night. We’ll remove your sutures 7-10 days after your procedure. We’ll put a bandage around your face to reduce swelling and bruising. (You can use ice packs during the first few days to reduce swelling, if needed.) We may use a thin tube to drain excess blood or fluid that can collect under your skin.
